ABOUT GEO The Geothermal Education Office is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, incorporated in California in 1989. Tax ID 68-034213.Our Mission is to promote public understanding about geothermal energy. Over the years, the Geothermal Education Office has worked to: • Ensure that geothermal energy is included in environmental and renewable energy education programs • Develop and distribute geothermal energy information for educators, students and the public • Build relationships with the nation�s energy educators, government agencies, energy suppliers and environmental groups • Encourage industry participation in geothermal education We have been able to accomplish our mission only due to generous sponsorships and volunteer assistance from many geothermal entities and individuals. She is currently serving her fifth term as an elected trustee on the Marin County Board of Education. She is a long time Rotarian and is Past President, now International Chair, of the Rotary Club of Tiburon Sunset. Marilyn and her husband, Ken, live in Tiburon (Marin County), California, and are the proud parents of Louis "Lex" (Boston, MA); Jordan "Joe" (Tiburon, CA) and Nicole "Nikki" (Palos Verdes, CA) and lucky grandparents of little Jemma and Stella.From 1989 through the early 2000's, working together with Anna Carter, a longtime geothermal specialist - and with many generous industry volunteers (standouts: Marshall Reed, Gordon Bloomquist, Marcelo Lippmann, Mike Wright, Charlene Wardlow, Susan Hodgson, John Lund, Dave Anderson, Joel Renner, Tom Flynn, Alfred Truesdell, Ken Nemzer) - Marilyn led the Geothermal Education Office to develop popular geothermal education publications, presentations and programs for elementary and high school students and public information materials for use by industry, agencies, the media, and others. Marilyn has co-authored, edited and won commendations for numerous publications about geothermal and other renewable energy sources. Especially notable are the National Green Power Leadership Award, 2006. sponsored by U.S. EPA, U.S. Dep't. of Energy, and Center for Resource Solutions and - most special to Marilyn - the Joseph W. Aidlin* Award, Geothermal Resources Council, 2014. * Joseph W. Aidlin was a groundbreaking lawyer, who co-founded Magma Power Company, which went on to develop the first geothermal steam production for commercial electric power generation in the Western Hemisphere at The Geysers in California. Aidlin also co-founded the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC), now Geothermal Rising. Aidlin was a key leader in writing state and national legislation relating to geothermal resources, including drafting the world's first geothermal lease. He was also one of Marilyn's dearest friends.)
